To the people defending George Zimmerman:
ladyatheist:
Let me break this down as simply as I possibly can. Trayvon was at his father’s house when he decided to go to the convenience store down the street to get skittles and iced tea. On his way back George Zimmerman called 911 because he thought Trayvon looked “suspicious”. The 911 dispatcher specifically told him NOT TO FOLLOW TRAYVON and that POLICE WERE ALREADY ON THE WAY. This 28 YEAR OLD, ARMED MAN decides to ignore the 911 dispatcher and follow 17 YEAR OLD Trayvon IN HIS CAR.
After following him for a while, George Zimmerman decides to get out of his car and confront Trayvon. They then (allegedly) get into a fight and George Zimmerman, the 28 YEAR OLD, ARMED, GROWN ASS MAN decides to SHOOT TRAYVON IN THE CHEST AND KILL HIM. When the police show up, HE ADMITS TO SHOOTING AND KILLING TRAYVON. THE POLICE LET HIM WALK AWAY, NO QUESTIONS ASKED.
How in the hell can you people defend that? He completely ignored the instructions of 911 dispatch, followed a kid in his car, and then shot and killed him in cold blood. At the very fucking least he should have been taken into police custody for questioning. What happened to Trayvon and how the police handled it makes absolutely no fucking sense. Anyone with half a fucking brain should be outraged at the fact that they are letting this man get away with murder. If you are defending George Zimmerman, you are defending a murderer. You are condoning his actions. You are upholding the white supremacist system that says Black children are inherently suspicious and that everyone has the right to follow and kill them.
They really are trying to scrape up any dumpster scum excuse for this. Is that really how meaningless the death of a Black child is to you all? Jeezus fuck.

That’s why there is no need for an Ivory Magazine, White History Month or White Entertainment Television. Look at Seventeen, Elle, Vogue, W Magazine, Fox, Vh1, MTV, NBC, CBS, Philosophy/History/Anthropology classes. They all talk showcase, discuss and study whiteness.. this all belongs to you. It’s run by the white people, of the white people and for the white people. The fact that there needs to even be ethnic classes aside from regular History courses should be a good indicator of how non-existent we are in the grand scheme of things.
Just a short 50 years ago, Black People were subjected to being second-class citizens. This was our parents time, our parents experienced this. How dare any of you tell us we’re being racist for creating our own establishment when we were denied entrance into yours? The gall is outstanding to me.
When someone says “there shouldn’t be a BET” (which by the way is still a horrible representation), what’s really being conveyed is “you all don’t deserve to be heard or seen, this is our territory, you are only relevant when we need to talk about welfare and crimes.” This is whiteness, this is white supremacy. This is what we are angry about.
When someone says Black Magazines only further separates you, I think “Not discussing kinky hair, make-up for darker tones, etc in regular magazines kinda already did that”.
And when I hear that shows with Black people as main characters is excluding, this is when I don’t take white people seriously anymore. Because if your privilege is so strong and blinding that you can’t see that you equal everything that’s not explicitly a Black, Latino or Asian institution, then me educating you is a complete waste of my time, energy and sanity.

This video has officially pissed me the fuck off.
They desecrated Egyptian history by skewing it to make it look like all the accomplishments were that of white people
… and now since they can’t really prove white people ever inhabited Ethiopia, they got the fucking audacity to talk about “well, it’s physically impossible since .. (insert bullshit here)”. Even though there’s never been discredit for Rome doing the exact same thing centuries before.
THIS is why there isn’t a need for any fucking white history month, because even when it belongs to us, you asswipes still take it or try to delegitimize it.

And you know we live in a white supremacist world ..
- when white people can wage wars on false pretenses, deplete the economy of trillions of dollars during the biggest economic disaster of the past 100 years, kill/rape/sodomize millions and destroy the fundamental fiber of a country’s being, justify it by using a crime that happened by several radical over a decade ago and the victims in the middle east are looked at as being dangerous.
- and when they can use the media to portray Blacks and Latinos as being dangerous, while simultaneously robbing poorer Black and Latino nations of their resources, causing the starvation/displacement of many and bolstering how savage like the people residing in the poorer nations are when civil wars start, that they instigate.
- and when america can exploit Syria and Libya for their lack of human rights and disregard to pro, while pregnant women and college students are being pepper-sprayed and beaten in their own backyards.
- and when white people are automatically the default in the west, therefore under/misrepresenting people of color (which inherently is racist), but people are calling out racism at the sight of native american history month, ebony magazine, etc.

Words honestly cannot describe how I abhor what has been done to MLK Jr.’s legacy
lebanesepoppyseed:
MLK Jr. didn’t ask for rights, he wasn’t pandering or sweet to the forces that oppressed him. He was a threat to whiteness through and through.
MLK Jr. wasn’t violent not because he wanted to gain some brownie points from whitedom but because he KNEW, FIRSTHAND, what violence does to a people, both those who are abusing and those who are being abused.
MLK Jr. didn’t dress in his Sunday best and speak clearly with diction so as to pander or kiss up to white folk. He did it for himself and for his people, to show what form his black identity took. That we in this society read speaking fearlessly and intelligently with passion and power in the face of oppression as “white” is beyond me, because that’s a black attribute through and through.
MLK Jr. didn’t have a problem with individual white people, but with their racism and ignorance on a whole, with their white supremacist society, and with their complacency and willingness to see it perpetuated at the detriment of him and his people. He knew that those who were quiet, who made excuses, who willfully stayed staunch in their ignorance and hatred were just as much a part of the problem as those who were more blatant and aggressive in their hatred. Any compassion coming from him was borne from himself, NOT from anything white people did, not something they at all merited or deserved.
The general way his legacy is portrayed, this whole “Peace & Non-violence” shit is all a ruse to make it about white people. “He was so nice to us, he was polite and peaceful, that is why we chose to give black people rights!”
My fuckin’ ass.
If MLK jr. was so accommodating and nice to whiteness, then why was he was arrested so much and assassinated, huh?
Huh?
What’s more, white people didn’t give shit. Black people fought for those rights and ripped them from their aggressors’ hands.
That’s how it’s always been. The oppressor is never going to willingly give up power or own up to wrongs and abuse. To destroy oppressive systems you have to be a threat to the way they run, to the privileges and the benefits the people who run it and who get privileged by it gain. Things will get uncomfortable and shitty and you’ll be falsely accused of being violent/aggressive/bitter/stuck in the past/oppressive/over-emotional/uppity, and sometimes, you risk everything for it, but that’s just them trying to silence you, to kill your collective voice by making an example of some of you, to separate you from your justified and righteous rage, the only thing that gives you power and that lends you the voice necessary to hold them accountable.
More importantly than what he was to white people and white supremacy is what he was to black people and people of color. We waste so much fuckin’ time analyzing shit from a white perspective we don’t even talk about how important what he did was for African Americans and other people of color.
That’s the shittiest thing to do to him, to ourselves. Let’s take some time to rethink how we talk about these things.

Since my response to this video was long as fuck, I’ll make it a post.
FOR ANY LIGHT SKINNED PEOPLE DENYING PRIVILEGE, here yall motherfuckers go. This is why dark-skinned people are fucking upset with us. Because they’ve been told their whole lives that they’re not good enough. And when you think your simple ass opinion trumps lived experience, you just further validate why their hate is justified. He referred to actual human beings as crust .. really now? Nigga, cuz you’re damn near blue black and I’m sure your mom ain’t bright neither, so you can shut all the way the fuck up. If light skinned girls everywhere thought the way he did, he’d be single and shat on forever.
Africans .. yall are fucking up. FUCKING UP. First of all, the fact that we are able to immigrate to this land and bypass all the civil rights struggle is because of the previous generation and their sacrifices. We owe our African-American brothers and sisters an eternal thank you. For you to benefit from the death of Dr. King and disown him is fucking disgusting. So, yeah, fuck that first bitch.
Second of all, the issues that she just named is not uncommon in any family. Since when is drama strictly a “black” thing? The most fucked up family situations I know are white people’s, to be frank. They’re just sneakier about their shit.
Lastly, she really disrespected that black kid with the Toshiba in public, didn’t she? Maybe the reason he doesn’t have a Mac is because his family can’t afford one and that might just have something to do with the unequal spread of wealth in America.. and you’re going in on a black man for simply living in a white supremacist soceity. The fuck? What type of sense does that make? And she went on to say my white friend with a Mac .. who she’s gonna record a track with? Probably has him saying nigga .. all while denying blackness.
This bitch .. somebody snatch her please. And keep her somewhere where she can never speak ever again.

I just saw something on my dash about interracial dating.
.. and the passing of light-skinned black women.
I’m light-skinned and didn’t realize how big of a privilege that was, especially when dating, until my first year of college.
My last boyfriend was white. White as they get. Blue eyes, blonde hair, liberal, artsy type from San Francisco. Cool ass dude. We loved the same music, had the same ideals and he seemed genuine.
I remember we were helping one of our mutual friends, Karishma, rearrange her dorm room. As we were cleaning, he stumbled across one of her photo albums and asked her who she was pictured with. She told him that was her parents and he looked at her strange .. looked back at the picture and looked at her and said “how the fuck did you come out so dark?” Just like that. I couldn’t believe it. He didn’t even bother coming up with a nicer way to say it. The look of disgust on his face was unmerciful. Needless to say, she was offended and she kicked him out.
That’s when it hit me, she’s Indian and they are universally accepted as being beautiful women. Indian women are on a higher pedestal of beauty than I am. I’m black, an African at that. Had I been her skin color, he probably never would have dated me. He never would have looked at me, he would have been repulsed by me. I’m the exact opposite from Karishma, my parents are darker than me. My mom slightly and my dad considerably. Me being light-skinned is by happenstance. It was like an out-of-body experience. I wasn’t exposed to racism and white supremacy all that much, but that incident changed me forever.
I broke up with him the next day. He might not have disrespected me personally, but his discontent with darker skin meant he looked down on my people and I wasn’t having that. I couldn’t even imagine taking him to my hood, let alone Ethiopia or Eritrea. White people think we’re like them. No, we don’t always have parents and cousins and siblings and aunts and uncles that look like us. When you see me, you’re not looking at one color or heritage or my entire family. I am a composite of my ancestors, who were everything from Arab to native Africans to Italians.
I AM my people, just like my parents were able to produce a child with a different pigmentation, so can I.

White Supremacy ..
… is when someone can be anti-semitic and still worship Jesus because they transformed his image from a man with unruly, thick, essentially nappy hair, dark skin and Asian descent to a light brown, smooth flowing hair and blue eyed caricature.
… aaaaand have all the PoC hang multiple pictures of this White savior in their house without objection because they have, for centuries been colonized and brain-washed into thinking their defiance equates an eternal damnation. :|
Nonetheless, have a beautiful day everyone. :)

“The U.S. Government doesn’t drop bombs on people because of their race. Washington’s geopolitical agendas lead to military actions. But racial biases make the war process easier when the people being killed and maimed aren’t white people. An oversize elephant in the room is a reality that few journalists talk about in public: the USA keeps waging war on countries where the victims resemble people who often experience personal and institutional racism in the United States.”
